
Prof. Simon Anderson

Simon G. Anderson is a Professor of Population Health Sciences and Cardiovascular Medicine at The University of the West Indies, and Director of the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre (GA-CDRC). He is also the inaugural co-Director of the Glasgow-Caribbean Centre for Development Research (GCCDR), a partnership between the University of Glasgow and UWI.
Professor Anderson’s research focuses on cardiovascular disease, non-communicable diseases, including cancer epidemiology and health inequalities, with a particular commitment to reducing the burden of chronic disease in the Caribbean. He has led research programmes funded by the IDRC, CIHR, MRC (UK), GACD and the NIHR (UK), working collaboratively across governments, communities and health systems to turn evidence into policy and practice.
He holds degrees from The University of the West Indies, Cambridge, Oxford, Cardiff and the London School of Economics, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the European Society of Cardiology. He also holds visiting professorships at the University of Glasgow and King’s College London.
