The Great Catch is a structured three-part programme to reduce prostate cancer mortality.

With your help, we can empower communities, provide vital resources, and foster a future where prostate health is a priority.

The Crisis

Age-standardised rate (world) per 100,000,
incidence and mortality in 2022

Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among Caribbean men with one of the highest prostate cancer mortality rates globally. Despite this, the region is significantly underrepresented in global research for prostate cancer.

  • Insufficient testing leads to later detection at more deadly stages.
  • Stigma discourages early testing.
  • Limited access to modern diagnostics and surgical options.
  • Inadequate support for mental health and survivorship.

Global research leadership

Research sits at the heart of The Great Catch because it turns our mission from a powerful idea into lasting change. By partnering with leading scientists and healthsystem experts, we can understand why Caribbean men face such stark prostate cancer inequalities and identify the most effective ways to close that gap.

Research helps us design better pathways, measure realworld impact, and ensure every decision is grounded in evidence rather than assumption.

Community engagement and stigma reduction

Community engagement is essential to The Great Catch because early detection only works when people feel safe, informed, and respected. By working directly with Caribbean communities, faith leaders, sports clubs, and trusted local voices, we can break down the stigma that too often surrounds prostate cancer and men’s health.

This isn’t about lectures or leaflets — it’s about creating spaces where men can talk openly, ask questions without judgement, and see themselves reflected in the programme.

Advanced testing and treatment

Advanced testing and treatment are central to The Great Catch because early detection must be matched with the highestquality care to truly save lives.

By connecting men to modern diagnostics — including MRI scans that can pinpoint suspicious areas with far greater accuracy and advanced biopsy techniques improving detection of clinically significant cancers.

We want to help the Caribbean gain access to these vital technologies so that we ensure that a raised PSA leads to an accessible pathway for all men in the region.
